Within the darkness: chapter 45

Maradith was very annoyed, or rather livid, Wallkery had once again failed to stay put and just heal. It annoyed her more that Bill kept chuckling and that Tina was unsurprised. Maradith ordered Bill to find her, the tone she used had him chuckling again but he did as asked as she stormed out of the hut.

Bill started with Tina trying to find out all he could. He listened to her tell of the first attempt and had to chuckle when he heard about the back knife. Leaving Wallkery’s sword with her sister, Bill set out and took one walk through the barracks before gathering all of the rumors he needed.

All in all, he had an entertaining morning; essentially he was tracking Walkery down and the rumors of what had happened the night before were ludicrously hilarious. Almost all of them had two points in common; one was that she had been on the walls and the other was that she had terrified all who saw her, and not just because she was scary-looking and supposed to be in bed and unable to move. Talking to the men on night duty and he found out everything he needed, although he did keep track of who so that they could be punished, they did risk everyone’s lives.

Bill found Wallkery leaning against a tree just inside the edge of the forest. She sat with her back to a tree and a short dagger held at her side. The longer he stood there, the more he wondered if she was awake, asleep, or dead. Knowing full well what Wallkery could do with a dagger, he had watched her skin and gotten a dear once, he sat across from her and started tossing pebbles at her.
